CRCS Audit Process Details for California LEAs

San Francisco, CA – December 29, 2011 – This article provides information on what is known about the CRCS audit process for LEAs participating in the LEA Billing Option program.

Audits and Investigations (A&I) has three years from the date of Cost and Reimbursement Comparison Schedule (CRCS) submission to complete an audit – and although CRCS fiscal year 2006-2007 and 2007-2008 are eligible for review up until April 2013, LEAs should be prepared as early as January 01, 2012 to receive notification of initial findings for, at minimum, the 2006-07 CRCS reports.

Details on the DHCS website indicate that the audit process for CRCS may include a desk review and/or a field visit which will result in:

  • A&I will send an “exit letter”, or schedule an “exit conference” (this will include initial audit findings)
  • The LEA will have 15 days to respond and include any additional documentation
  • A&I will review the additional documentation and issue an audit report to the LEA that contains a final settlement amount.  At this point the LEA will have the option to agree to the findings or initiate an appeal.

 

To ensure that timely notification from A&I is received, Paradigm recommends that you update your LEA contact information with DHCS by completing the Update LEA Contact Information form and faxing it directly to DHCS at 916-324-0738.
