Early Analysis of Governor Brown’s 2015-16 Budget Proposal

On Friday, January 9, 2015, California Governor Jerry Brown released his proposed budget for the upcoming 2015-16 fiscal year. This is the start of a long process which will include revisions and necessary approvals by both the Assembly and Senate, with the final budget due by June 15th.

Governor Brown’s proposal includes $142 billion for services and programs under the Department of Health and Human Services, which includes an additional $150 million for County Medi-Cal Administration such as conducting Medi-Cal eligibility look-ups.

The proposal also includes an additional $7.8 billion than planned for education for K-12 Education funding, including a $4 billion investment in the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and an additional $15.3 million in Proposition 98 funding for Special Education ADA.
