ICD-10 Update

April 7, 2014 – San Francisco, CA – Preparations have been underway for a transition from ICD-9 codes to ICD-10 diagnostic codes, which were to be effective October 1, 2014. However, on April 1, 2014, President Barack Obama signed HR 4302, the “Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014,” which included a delay to the ICD-10 conversion by one year, to October 2015.

This change will impact school-based health practitioners participating in the LEA Medi-Cal Billing Option program, as the diagnostic codes they have come to regularly use will be changing. Paradigm’s web-based solution for managing student health records, Student Health Network (SHN), had been prepared for the transition to billing ICD-10 codes in advance of the original October 1, 2014 deadline.

While we have delayed our implementation of ICD-10 codes in accordance with the extension, Paradigm clients utilizing our SHN will experience minimal impact to their program and practitioners when the transition goes into effect on October 1, 2015.
