New Information Reported for School MAA Deferral and New Plan Development, Official DHCS Update for LEAs Coming Soon

At a recent Local Educational Consortia (LEC) meeting, the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) shared an update on their progress toward resolving the ongoing school MAA deferral and establishment of a new program plan. While details vary, the Department reported that:

  • DHCS is working to obtain federal approval of an interim claiming process for the upcoming fiscal year 2013/14.
  • DHCS is working to develop a reasonableness test that the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will use to process the remaining deferral certifications; deferred claims will continue to be held until the Department and CMS agree on this process.
  • DHCS has new staff to assist with setting and achieving milestones related to the deferral and development of a new program plan.

The Department is expected to post an official status update to their SMAA website this week. Paradigm clients will receive a dedicated email announcing the publication of this update as soon as it is available.

California LEAs look forward to hearing what will be expected of them this coming year to maintain funding for their Medi-Cal outreach programs. In this first year of the Affordable Care Act’s Medi-Cal expansion, outreach work is expected to be more important than ever.
