State Superintendent Tony Thurmond Releases Guidance Document on Safe Reopening of California’s Public Schools

On Monday, June 8, 2020, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond announced that CDE has released a guidance document titled “Stronger Together: A Guidebook for the Safer Opening of California’s Public School’s”. The guidebook is comprehensive and offers considerations and examples of solutions, covering health and safety practices; instructional programs including for special education and English learners, mental health and well-being for staff and students in addition to school services such as transportation and meals. The document is intended to provide guidance on safely reopening schools and was informed based on the advice of many health and safety organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control. It is based on current information known at this time and the understanding is that it may be updated as new data becomes available.
