New Guidance Released to Help Schools Certify Deferred School MAA Claims

California’s Department of Health Care Services (DHCS) recently posted new guidance documents related to the ongoing SMAA deferral to their website. The Reasonableness Test Criteria (RTC) Sample Justifications are intended to give school districts an idea of what DHCS will be looking for when reviewing RTC claim justifications that were submitted by districts as part of the process to receive payment on deferred invoices.

In a weekly update, the Department also noted that denial letters will begin flowing as early as this week.

Although the RTC Sample Justifications come long after the bulk of RTC paperwork was due to the state, these guidance documents may prove useful for districts that receive denial letters and wish to appeal or amend their justifications if the time and opportunity allow.
